Annual Wellness Examinations at Chiquita Animal Hospital

Veterinarians recommend regular wellness exams for the same reason your physician and dentist recommend them – if you can detect a problem in its early stages, it's more likely to be treated and resolved with less expense, less difficulty and better success.

Vaccinations, parasite screenings, heartworm tests, and preventions are important components of wellness care and can prevent diseases that are not only life-threatening, but very expensive to treat. Your veterinarian can recommend a wellness program based on your pet's breed, age, lifestyle and overall health.

What Does a Veterinarian Check During a Physical Examination?

A typical physical examination will cover the following areas (and our veterinarians will also provide you with a report card for each area that you can take home):

  • Eyes
  • Ears
  • Mouth/Teeth/Gums
  • Skin
  • Nose and Throat
  • Lymph Nodes
  • Legs/Paws/Back
  • Nervous System
  • Heart and Lungs
  • GI Tract/Abdomen
  • Urinary and Genitals

Your exam report card will also include the notes your doctor entered related to your pet's history, identification of any problems, tests and results, vaccinations, an overall assessment, and a treatment plan.
